Renewable Energy, waste and bio mass.
Most "new" technologies have been researched for many years and
is still battling with obvious problems. Our approach is to contribute
to a reduction of energy waste and pollution. This is probably the
only way to prepare for use of "new technologies".
We can generally say that the new technologies are bumping into
the following road blocks.
- Energy content per area, volume or weight. Here the only
solution is better energy utilization. (energy conservation)
- Lack of resources for the materials that the new technology
can work with. (ongoing research for other materials)
- Risks attached with the technology or perceptions of risks.
Energy conservation is more boring than dreams of an abundance
of energy, but an important part of our survival.
Renewable energy resources has been researched at length and under
many years in Sweden. The use of waste and bio mass are of special
interest. Sweden has during the last 100+ years developed a unique
and good reforestation system for wood and paper production. This
experiences and system could easily be transformed and expanded to
cover fast growing bio mass in an ecological way.
Combustion processes has also been a focus for Swedish researchers under
many years. One avenue has been pulsating combustion. To rise efficiency
and cleanness is paramount. A high efficient pulsating oil burner has now
been sold on the Swedish market for more than 12 years and with very good
experiences. We are willing to assist in building a larger international
distribution of this solution.
One very big problem is the transportation and in conjunction with this the
size of the production units. This is also the issue with almost all renewable
energy sources. Some years ago we did a calculation on a relatively small
electric power plant. To feed it, one needed 10 big trucks with bio mass per
hour. You have similar challenges with wind and solar power, but here it
is occupied surface for the actual power plant, instead of area for production
of bio mass. It is very clear that the whole system of distribution
must be overhauled and the production units must be small and geographically
disburse, in any renewable energy system. It is also similar issues with
fusion power, which have been research for 80 years now, without any full scale
production unit yet built. Any sources with less energy content than fossil
fuel, will also have serious ecological and practical consequences as with the
fossil fuel.
What ever way one look at it, the consumption side is probably the most
critical factor in this. Knowing that most consumption is 2-3 times larger
than it need to be, we will need at least 65% of production
resources only to cover the energy waste and more if we continue to
neglect natural solutions for peak demands. If we do not do something
about this, it is difficult to move from sources with high energy content
to sources with less. We are stuck with fossil fuel, until it becomes
impossible from availability and cost reasons, if we do not attack the
energy consumption side in a very serious way. The only medium time solution
might be an escalation of nuclear power if we do not save a lot of other fossil
energy resources. This is some of the reasons why we started "Energy Saving Now".
It is enormous energy resources spent on keeping a biological mechanism that
produces 80 Watt at a constant 37 degree Celsius temperature +/- 0.5 degree and only
work with air temperatures as compensation method. It is no excuse for using
and defending methods and systems that leads to over-consumption of energy.
We only have to go back a couple of hundred years, to see engineering that
was better adapted to renewable energy resources. We also declined, compared
with techniques used a couple of thousand years ago. Long before Celsius and
Fahrenheit was born. It is amazing that some simple and wonderful inventions,
contribute in making us dumber. This in a time when we deal with the complexity
of Internet and Space exploration.
It is absolutely necessary to start to use our treasures of fossil resources
in a far more intelligent way and by this preparing ourselves to use alternative
and renewable energy sources. The established financial interests would earn
more in contributing to solutions, than fighting them. Contrary to some political
and financial interests, that wants us to expand energy production and believe
that saving energy is a very long term prospect, we know that it is a lot of
efficient and fast fixes to minimize the problems.
